Praia de Machico
Machico, Madeira · Madeira
About the Beach
Praia de Machico is the main beach of the city of the same name, where the history of Madeira began with the landing of João Gonçalves Zarco in 1419. The golden sand of this beach was brought from the Sahara — an ingenious solution to create a sandy beach on a predominantly rocky island. The bay of Machico, sheltered by headlands, has the calm, warm water much valued for bathing.
