Privacy Policy
How we handle your data — in plain language
Last updated: 1 June 2026
Who we are
Guia de Praias(guiadepraias.pt) is an informational project about Portugal's beaches and is the controller of the data described on this page. For any privacy question, contact [email protected].
What data we collect
We collect the minimum necessary and never sell your data. Specifically:
- Usage data (analytics): via Google Analytics 4, aggregated and anonymous — pages visited, beach searches, filters applied, shares, map clicks and scroll depth. Used only to understand what is useful and improve the site. Collected only if you accept analytics cookies.
- Feedback and votes you send voluntarily: when you use the feedback field or vote on a beach's amenities, we store your message/vote, the source page and the date. We do not ask for identification; we only keep an email if you choose to write one in your message.
- Basic technical data: like any website, the server logs requests (including IP address) for security and operation. We do not use them to identify you.
Cookies and consent
We use two categories of cookies:
- Necessary: keep the site working and store your cookie preferences. They cannot be disabled.
- Analytics: Google Analytics cookies (
_ga,_gid). They are off by default— Google Analytics starts in «consent denied» mode (Consent Mode v2) and only begins collecting data after you accept. If you decline, those cookies are removed automatically.
You can change your choice at any time via the cookie banner (it reappears when you clear your browser data) or by contacting us.
Legal basis and purpose
We process analytics based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Feedback and votes you send are processed based on your consent when submitting them, for the purpose of correcting and improving beach information. Server technical data relies on our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and operational.
Who we share with
We do not sell or transfer your data. We use Google Analytics (Google Ireland Ltd.) as a processor for analytics. Some data may be processed outside the European Economic Area, under the safeguards provided by Google. There is no other third-party sharing for marketing purposes.
How long we keep it
Google Analytics data is retained for the period set in the tool (up to 14 months). Feedback and votes are kept while useful for improving the site. You can request removal at any time.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to the processing of your data, as well as data portability. To exercise any of these rights, write to [email protected].
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority — in Portugal, the National Data Protection Commission (CNPD).
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes to the site or the law. The «last updated» date at the top indicates the version in force.
