Praia Fluvial de Idanha-a-Nova sits on the Idanha reservoir, formed by the waters of the River Ponsul, in a landscape of olive groves and wheat fields typical of the Beira Baixa region. Praia Fluvial de Vila Velha de Ródão sits next to the famous Portas de Ródão, a natural gorge of the River Tagus carved into quartzite — one of Portugal's most striking geographical features. The Tagus water on this stretch is calm and suitable for bathing, while the surrounding Portas de Ródão create a landscape of dramatic geology.
