Costa Nova Sul

Costa Nova do Prado is famous for its iconic striped houses in vibrant colours — the palheiros — which have become one of the most photographed symbols of Portugal. The beach sits between the Atlantic Ocean and the Ria de Aveiro, forming a unique sand strip with two distinct waterfronts. The colourful houses, seafood restaurants and lively atmosphere make Costa Nova one of the most distinctive destinations on the central coast.

Praia de Costa Nova is in the municipality of Ílhavo, district of Aveiro, in the Centre region. Coastal beach with water quality rated Excellent by APA in 2025.

Praia da Barra is one of the largest and busiest beaches on Portugal's central coast, anchored by the imposing Farol da Barra — Portugal's tallest lighthouse, 62 metres high, in operation since 1893 and still active today. Located in the municipality of Ílhavo, at the entrance to the Ria de Aveiro, the beach runs for around four kilometres of fine, light-coloured sand, with a direct Atlantic frontage and some of the most consistent swell on the Portuguese coast.
