Praia de Tamargueira

Praia de Buarcos is the northern beach of Figueira da Foz, next to the main beach but with a more fishing-village, traditional feel — arte xávega (beach-seine fishing) is still practised here. The atmosphere is more authentic and local than around the casino, with fishermen drying their nets and brightly coloured boats lined up on the sand. Water quality and the length of the sand make it a favourite with visitors.

Praia da Figueira da Foz is the largest urban beach on Portugal's central coast, with a long stretch of fine sand and a famous casino that gives it a unique status among Portuguese seaside resorts. Energetic waves make it a favourite with surfers, with international competitions held regularly. The city has kept a strong bathing tradition going back to the nineteenth century.
