Praia Fluvial de Loriga sits on the cool, crystal-clear waters of the River Loriga, on the flank of the Serra da Estrela, in a deep green valley that is one of the most beautiful in the Beira mountain region. The historic village of Loriga, considered one of the most beautiful places in Portugal, is metres away, with its stone houses and the irrigation channels (levadas) that run through the streets. Praia Fluvial de Sabugal sits on the banks of the River Côa, next to the medieval Sabugal castle — one of Portugal's most distinctive fortresses, with a unique pentagonal keep. The cool waters of the Côa and the granite landscape of the Portuguese-Spanish borderland create a setting of great mountain authenticity. Proximity to the Côa Valley Archaeological Park, with the famous Palaeolithic rock engravings, enriches the visit culturally.
