About the Beach
Praia do Areão lies in the southwest of the Vagos municipality, in the parish of Boa Hora, within the Vagos Dunes National Forest. It is free from direct urban influence and sits on a sensitive dune system, so beach access is only via boardwalks to protect it. The bathing area stretches for about 750 metres, bounded to the south by a groyne, and every access point has recycling points. It holds the Blue Flag in 2026 and water quality rated Excellent by APA in 2025; according to the municipality, it has also been awarded the "Praia de Qualidade de Ouro" (Gold Quality Beach) distinction.
